New Moon’s Burning Desire

February 3rd, 2011

I sat down to write a New Moon post three different times yesterday.  All three times I started to write, got about a paragraph or two into it, and then just couldn’t pull my thoughts together.  I’d also like to note that all three posts were about different things.  I wasn’t trying to write something specific that wouldn’t flow.  It seemed like NOTHING would flow.

I chalked my creativity block up to being snowbound with the boys for two days, and gave up trying.  I figured, if something is going to come out of me, it will come when it’s ready.

That’s how I write usually.  I don’t have a topic or idea that I sit down and expand upon.  I generally just feel a pull to my keys, and if I sit down and clear my mind, whatever is trying to come out, does.  Yesterday, writing was taking effort.  And the effort wasn’t helping at ALL.

So, I gave up trying to make a post for the New Moon, and went into my bedroom to hide from all the business going on in the living room last night.

While I was sitting there, I felt suddenly inspired to open my wood-burning box.  I have done little bits of word-burning art, here and there, for about 12-13 years now.  I burned Christmas ornaments for EVERYONE in my family once, many years ago.  Each was round and flat with a red, leather, shoe lace hanger.  Each had either a snowman, snowflake, Santa’s sleigh, or star on one side, and then the recipients name on the other side.  I was really proud of how they turned out.

Anyway, I opened the big box and just started lifting things out and looking at them, unsure what I was looking for, but willing to root around until I felt like the right thing was in my hand.  My hand closed on a little, wooden heart, and in my mind’s eye, I saw what I was being lead to.

I plugged in my wood-burning pen, and while I waited for it to heat up, I sat and thought about what it is I REALLY want to see in my life.  What it is that I want to focus on and move toward, starting on this February New Moon.

I am continually assaulted with synchronicity regarding spirit guides.  I have been for probably almost a year now, but lately they’ve been getting stronger and more specific.

In the book I just finished reading and LOVED (Review is coming next week!), the author talks about realizing that Jesus is one of her spirit guides.  She had an inkling and just ASKED, and received a synchronous confirmation almost immediately.

I’ve always been drawn to the Bible.  More specifically, the new testament.  The stories of Jesus.  I’ve even referred to Jesus as “my first guru.”  And that just made me wonder if maybe Jesus is also one of MY Spirit guides.

Well, I was on my way to Erie to have lunch with my grandma when I was thinking about all this, sort of zoned out, driving down the highway.  And I thought…. Well, I guess if I want to know… I should just ASK.  And so I did.

I round a bend and find myself driving past this HUGE billboard that has a giant picture of Jesus that reads, “Jesus, mender of broken hearts.”

So, that brings me back to my New Moon post.

I have made half hearted attempts at having conscious contact with my spirit guides in the past.  It feels like I’m being pulled that way pretty hard right now, and I’m feeling a lot more inspired to do so, so that is my focus for now.

I want to make conscious contact with and get to know Jesus (Good grief that sounds Christian…lol).

This whole thing flashed through my mind as I sat staring at my wood-burning pen while it warmed, and I knew that I needed a “burning desire” (it’s an awesome pun, deal with it!), so I burned my desire onto my heart.

As a side note, I just realized that Mercury is going into Aquarius for the next three weeks which will bring easy communication, especially with strangers.  I’ve been thinking about this New Moon in Aquarius and the Mercury, Aquarius thing all week, and all week I thought that the changes it would bring would be pertaining to my communication with you all out in cyber space.

Seems that’s not the kind of communication that will be the headliner this month.  But it’s yet another way that things seem to be lining up for me to pursue this line of intention.

Pay no attention to the robe and bedhead in the background.  I’m being lazy today : )

New Moon Intentions

August 15th, 2010

Happy Spirit Day :)

I get a special treat on this wonderful Sunday because Mike left at 10:30 this morning, and took both Michael and Eddie to our local, county fair for the day, and they’ll likely not be home until 9 or 10 o’clock tonight.  I haven’t had an entire day to myself since May!  Three cheers for temporary, quiet solitude.

This week will be the last full week of summer vacation for the boys.  They return to school next Wednesday, which we’re all excited about.  It’ll sure be nice to have quiet days again, although I can already tell you that I’m going to miss them.

I sorta missed the boat on the New Moon this month.  I acknowledged it, but wasn’t yet feeling UP enough to sit at my laptop and write much.  I didn’t set any “official” intentions for this cycle, but I did manage to set some “unofficially” due to circumstances, so I’m going to go over them and make them official.

It is the obvious direction I’m being pulled toward.  If I’ve learned anything in my life, it’s to go with the flow.

My official intention is: I want to take this new found awareness of my body and health, and implement greater changes into the lives of everyone in my family.

The habits I intend to practice this month are~

  • Cook lunch so Mike can eat at home for lunch a LOT more.
  • Prepare ALL of the boys’ lunches for school.
  • Eat well with intention and purpose.
  • Take my supplements daily.
  • Riding with the dogs.
  • Get up at the same time every day.

How I intend to implement these changes into my life~

** I think my best bet at hitting the first two will be to cook bigger and less.  If I cook a large enough meal during the day, we can also eat it for dinner and still have leftovers in the fridge that will be good for 3-4 days depending.  If I cook 2 large meals a week, and maybe a smaller one in the evening one night (because some things aren’t good as leftovers and I try to only cook what we eat. Like fish..), then between the fresh food and leftovers, there’s no reason we can’t eat all week.

And some things can be pretty easily morphed into other things.  I made homemade sloppy joes with ground turkey for lunch one day.  Then we ate leftovers for dinner.  The next afternoon, I threw the sloppy joe meat in the crock pot and dumped a jar of tomato sauce on it and left it on low for 4 hours.  Then I dumped in the noodles left from the chicken parm of 3 days ago and we had spaghetti for dinner.

Feeding everybody lunch has been a very daunting task in my mind in the past.  I have to remember that it’s as easy or hard as I want it to be.

** I’m adding eating with intention and purpose again this cycle because it’s not automatic yet, and that’s my goal.  To be more automatically present when I eat.  I still forget and stuff my face mindlessly, but I’m getting much better.  A little more practice won’t hurt.

** I’m also keeping my supplements listed for the same reason as above.  I still miss days and I want it to be more of a habit.

A quick thought on habits.  I heard once that when something becomes a true habit, it will be harder for you to NOT do it than it will be to operate by the habit.  One of the simplest and yet silliest examples I could think of, from my own life is my turning signal.  When I am in my car and turn, I HAVE to use my turning signal.  When I drive down my driveway and am about to turn out onto the road, I use my turning signal.  When it’s 2am and I’m the only car in sight on a back road in the middle of nowhere, I use my turning signal.  I’ve tried NOT to use it, but I will compulsively hit it at the last moment before I go around a corner.  I actually laugh at myself about it.  I want being present and aware to be THAT kind of habit.  When my mind wanders away I automatically and even compulsively flip that turning signal and come back into the moment at hand.

** Riding with the dogs is what I’ve been doing the past few days as I’ve been getting my strength back.  Bandit 4 to 6 miles in the morning and then Abby 4 to 6 miles in the evening.  It’s been good exercise for all three of us and I’m going to stick with it for exercise this cycle.  I find it very peaceful out those times of day too, so I even look forward to it.

** Getting up at the same time every day is important right now because the boys go back to school in a WEEK!  Tonight is their last night to observe our summer hours.  They’ll be up late tonight and then get up at 7:30 tomorrow morning.  That way at 9:30 when it’s time to go to sleep, they’ll actually be tired and ready.  I’m looking forward to having a more productive schedule.  I have to get this one together and walk the walk because kids are copy cats :)

A quick note on my affirmation that hasn’t changed yet.  I’ve decided not to change it yet.  I like this one.  It makes me smile.

Intending to Love My Body~ Cycle Conclusion*

August 14th, 2010

I feel good.

Happy.

Peaceful.

Healthy.

From the New Moon last month (July 11, 2010) until the New Moon this month (August 9, 2010) I had intended to focus on my body.  To quote…well… Me…

My official intention is: I want to realize the beauty and perfection that is my body so I may love and respect it in kind*

The habits I intend to practice daily for this month are~

  • Get up at the same time every day
  • Walk
  • Look good 2 feel good
  • Take my supplements
  • Eat well & with intention/purpose
  • Drink 8 glasses of water
  • No more than 2 cups of coffee
  • Be aware of my posture and the general state of my body

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

Boy did THAT intention come to pass.  I didn’t get a chance to practice all the daily habits that I’d intended to, but I’m going to go ahead and give my self a free pass on what I missed.

I didn’t get up at the same time every day.  I was up days at a time, ill.  Free pass.

I didn’t walk every day.  See above explanation.  Free pass.

I DID “look good to feel good.”  Not every single day… but each of the days I was capable of getting out of bed!

I didn’t take my supplements every single day, but I did manage it most days and I learned that I have a magnesium deficiency and have taken steps to correct it :)

I think I did really well eating well and with intention and purpose.  I would have to say that this past month I was definitely more aware of what was going into my mouth.

I must confess that I haven’t been counting the glasses of water I’ve been drinking.  I have, however, purposely increased the amount of water I consume and I believe I’ve met or exceeded my intended.  Had a lot of sorbitol in my system to flush out.

The coffee is a funny one.  I really wanted to cut WAY back on the amount of coffee I was drinking.  I had actually reached a place where I sort of wanted to quit drinking it altogether.  The thing is, I LIKE drinking coffee.  That’s why I decided to just cut back to no more than 2 cups a day.  I’m a believer in realistic goals.  You can always set a new goal once you reach a realistic goal.  Well!  I quit drinking coffee.  Mike suggested it might be irritating my stomach before we knew about the sorbitol, and I had agreed and began drinking tea.  I had a craving for a cup of coffee about 4 days ago, but I didn’t even drink half of it.  It just didn’t taste good to me and I happily poured it in the sink and brewed a cup of tea :)

I have been taking notice of my posture a lot more.  I try to sit and stand up tall and straight.  And as far as being aware of the general state of my body… yeah… I think I’m covered.  LOL

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

I lost 13 pounds total from my sorbitol ordeal, but I’m actually happy to report than I’ve gained back 5.  My official goal weight is 8 pounds less than my current weight… so it feels a little weird to be happy about weight gain, but it really feels like a sign of health and recovery.  My appetite has returned full scale, but I’ve been eating mostly fruits, veggies and nuts, so I’m sure my body is just finding it’s balance again.

I’ve also started riding my bike with one dog in the morning and then again with the other dog in the evening.  The exercise feels really good.

Overall… I would have to admit that I absolutely feel better in and about my body after this past month’s intention.  It was one hell of a ride, but I would have to count this cycle as a complete success :)

As I write this, it’s 10:30pm… so my official intention(s) for this next cycle will have to wait until tomorrow to be written.  See you there~
