Finding Heaven

June 15th, 2011

Me and the boys cleaned out the van yesterday and got loaded up, ready to go fishing.

When everything was ready, we got in and I started it up.  The song that came on the radio as the van roared to life was Brad Paisley, I’m Gonna Miss Her.  A song about fishing.  We laughed at that.  How synchronous ♥

When it was finishing up, Michael says, “Wouldn’t it be funny if  She Thinks We’re Just Fishin by Trace Adkins came on next?”

The song ends.  We all hang in the silence, waiting for the next song to start… It’s not Trace Adkins.

Among a chorus of  “Awwwwww”  from the back seat I say, “Well, what are the chances they’d play two fishin’ songs in a row?”

And then the new lyrics begin…

Every day I drive to work across Flint River bridge.  A hundred yards from the spot where me and grandpa fished.

All our heads whipped around and we stared at each other…. Then we all burst into hysterical laughter!

I thought it was ironic that the song that synchronously demonstrated just how close heaven really is was called, “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away” by Justin Moore.

Which was apparently the theme of the day thereafter because we then heard Offspring, Gone Away whose chorus says, “And it feels, yeah it feels like, heaven’s so far away”… Then Warrant sang for us, “Heaven isn’t too far away… Closer to it every day…

Everyday Magick

June 12th, 2011

Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

When I was a kid, I lived with my Gram.  We would go to Sunday School early every Sunday morning.  At noon, when church got out, we crossed the street and went back home.  My other grandma (Gram’s daughter-My mom’s mom), and my aunt Phyllis would already be there, in the kitchen having started lunch.

Around 12:30 we would all sit down to Sunday Dinner.  By 1:30 everyone was asleep.  There’s nothing quite like a Sunday afternoon nap.  When we all woke up, usually an hour later, the rest of the afternoon was filled with reading, playing, gardening, etc.

Gram wouldn’t work on Sunday.  She didn’t fix anything or run anywhere.  We didn’t even go to a store on a Sunday.  A lot of the church folks would go for lunch at the local diner after church.  Not Gram.  Not ever.

I remember trying to get her to leave the dirty dishes in the sink and come play with me by saying, “But Gram, you’re not supposed to work on Sunday!  Dishes is work!  Come play!”

Sometimes it even worked.

She prayed a lot on Sunday.  Well, she prayed a lot, period.  So to say it was more on Sunday truly is saying something.

Today is Sunday.

Gram’s been gone for fourteen and a half years now, but every Sunday I still think of her.

Today I will clean-up in the sun room.  I am surrounded by nature in there and it is my most sacred space.  I am at peace there.  It is where I sit, now, as I write this, and where I spent most of my days.

I will bless and rearrange my altar.  Also in my sun room.

I will spend time in meditation.

I will spend time in my garden with earth on my hands.

I will take a walk outside.  A walk not intended for exercise.  A leisurely, moving appreciation for the divine nature of everything around me.

Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

We need a day of renewal.  We need a day of reconnection.  Sunday is the first day of the week.  Your week will ripple out from Sunday so why not begin refreshed and focused?

Wishcasting Wednesday

June 8th, 2011

A member of The Moon Group posted this website to the group wall this morning and I loved the concept, so I’m going to play along!

Check out Jamie Ridler Studios for Wishcasting Wednesday.

Wishcasting Wednesday: What do you wish to begin?

I’ve been watching Gregg Braden videos on youtube the past couple days.  He’s the author of the book, The Divine Matrix, which is now officially on my “To Be Read” list.

Anyway, in one of the videos, he said something that really spoke to me.  He said his purpose is to leave the world around him in a better state than when he arrived.  Meaning, when he leaves a room or a building or a DITCH, he picks up some trash or straightens something.

He’s basically leaving a trail of peaceful, loving energy in his wake.  I thought that was a beautiful concept.

So, in light of this, I wish to begin to leave a trail of peaceful, loving energy in my wake.  I wish to begin to leave my mark on every person or place that I visit.  I wish to make my mark on this world, no by leaving my name, but by transforming the energy all around me with love and kindness.

My energy is my legacy.
