Half Moon Book Review *)

June 10th, 2011

Greeting my friends.  Please forgive my being a few days slow on the draw.

Alan has been here since Wednesday and when your sixteen year old only visits for three days, once a month, you don’t spend all your time on your laptop writing.  Dang kid will be eighteen in fourteen short months and who KNOWS when I’ll see him after that!

So thank you all for understanding why I’ve needed to be off swimming and cooking out and playing silly boardgames.

Today’s Book:

The Book of God~ The Bible as a Novel

By Walter Wangerin Jr.

I’m going to preface this review by first saying:
I was raised in a Christian home.  I had the Bible read to me, a little at a time, twice during my youngest childhood years.  I have always loved the Bible stories I was told.  I especially love the new testament and all things Jesus.

On to my review.

WHAT AN AMAZING BOOK!!!

I LOVE it!  I’m not even finished with it yet because it’s SO long.  I have it on MP3, so I have been listening to it during my morning walk or in the car mostly.

There are twenty eight, hour to hour and a half long chapters.  I am currently on chapter twenty.

There is no interpretation in here.  This is no one’s opinion on what the Bible means.  This is the Bible, told as a story.  The lineage, the miracles, those stories that we all know, and a good many that most of us DON’T know.

So much incest and murder!  Sordid affairs and betrayal!  Edge of your seat kind of stuff!

It’s written in a more modernized language, though it doesn’t stray completely from the original grammar.  And by original, I mean the King James version.  I am very well aware that’s not really the original anything, but I think you know what I mean :)

I really can’t tell you how much I am LOVING this book.  But I am a lover of the Bible.  If you have any interest in the Bible, you’ll love this.  I am so happy that I own this audio book and I can say without a doubt that I WILL listen to it again.

My raking for this book~

Hoard it! ~ I would put this book on my shelf and never let it leave my house.

Happy Monday

June 6th, 2011

I got a comment on my post, Let there be Cash, this morning.

Claire writes:

So… Did you participate in the conference calls and what is your sincere personal opinion? :)
(Been participating myself throughout May and curious about other participants experiences – if any)

And after I’d posted a reply to her stating that I’d intended to blog about it this Wednesday because the final of the three calls was Tuesday, I realized that I’d never posted my video blogs here for my readers.  I’d only posted them on Facebook.

I only made two videos.  The first is from the day before the first blessing, and the second is the morning after the first blessing.  I meant to do one after the second blessing, but I didn’t really have anything to report.

I’ll make and post a third on Wednesday June 8th.

I got all my veggies and herbs transplanted to their permanent homes this weekend.  I did most of it with The Book of God ~ The Bible as a Novel by Walter Wangerin on my MP3 player in my ears.  Twenty nine hours of the Bible… as a novel.  Guess what my book review will be on Wednesday.

And even though I’m not done with it yet, I felt the pull of something new this morning, so I plugged in Advancing Your Spirit ~ Finding Meaning In Your Life’s Journey for my walk this morning.  This one is a lecture given by Wayne Dyer and Marianne Williamson.

I took a Reiki class on May 17th, almost 3 weeks ago.  Included in the class was a Reiki I and II attunement.  So I’m now practicing Reiki every morning.  I meditate and send myself Reiki.  Then I spent a few minutes sending Reiki out to a list of people that are close to me… ie.. my grandma, brothers, mom, Ash, and anyone who’s asked me to pray for them.

The first week I didn’t do much except to wonder what I should be doing.  Then I asked.  After I asked I was practically assaulted and bombarded with articles, emails, videos, etc. all talking about raising your personal and spiritual energy with daily exercise.

Since then I’ve been walking a mile every morning.  I walk the entire perimeter of our yard, and back through a trail I’ve cut in the woods.  It’s such a magical space back there.  I just love it.

Then I clean up and go into the sun room where I recline and meditate for 5-20 minutes depending on the day.  After that, I practice Reiki.

I’ve been doing this daily for about a week now.  I don’t know if it’s due to the regular practice or the exercise or the being in nature.  It’s likely a combo of the three.  But I’ve absolutely been meditating deeper and longer and easier, and it’s become rather easy to pull in the Reiki energy.  I close my eyes and clear my mind and whisper the name of the symbol in my head and I immediately feel my hands start to vibrate.  It’s really incredible.

I’m looking forward to becoming even more proficient with it.

Half Moon Book Review *)

Today’s Book:

Circle of Three

By Isobel Bird

I’m currently 3/4 of the way through book six of this series.

Have you ever wished someone could explain Wicca and witchcraft to you as though you were just learning?  Why not learn along with the girls in this series?

They have a local metaphysical bookstore where they take classes throughout their year and a day of studying.  They go to rituals and celebrate sabbats all while dealing with everyday issues in high school, and common ebbs and flows in relationships all around them.

In book one we’re introduced to Kate, Annie, and Cooper when the girls are thrust together after Kate uses a spell in a spell book while researching witchcraft for a report.  The spell backfires terribly and she recruits the help of Annie, the only other person who’d checked out the same book from the library, to set things right again.

Little do they know, the girls are beginning a beautiful journey into the Spiritual and metaphysical.

And I am REALLY loving going along with them~

These books read VERY fast and easy reads thanks to their Young Adult status, but they’re not immature.  I find them very highly engrossing, and could easily read one in less than a day.

How oh how would I rate this entire series of books?

I would ~ Lend it!

In fact, I think I’m going to buy them all so my kids can read them, and any other children I intend to ruin ;)

Hoard it! ~ I would put this book on my shelf and never let it leave my house.

Lend it! ~ I would lend this book out with my name inside, and insist on a fairly prompt return.

Give it! ~ I would pass this book on with the hopes that the next person to read it gets as much or more from it than I.
