Mother Earth

April 23rd, 2011

Okay, I lapsed into an inspired moment of corniness and wrote a poem about Mother Earth for Earth Day.

A Naked & Green Kind of Clean

February 21st, 2011

Greetings my blog family~

I have an odd post today because that’s just how I roll.

First, I would like to say that I am currently immersed in Doreen Virtue’s new book, The Angel Therapy Handbook, and you can expect to get my review on Thursday!

Second, I am also hosting a Waning Moon Banishing Meditation on Thursday at 11 am and 11 pm EST. You can see the event posted on facebook and RSVP as “attending,” or simply comment or reply to this post and I will add you to the reminder list and you will get a reminder email the morning and evening of the event.

And now… the odd part.

I have managed to rid my home of virtually every chemical cleaner.  The things I use to clean most of the time is Dr. Bronners Sal Suds, which is biodegradable and septic safe, and a homemade, all purpose cleaner I make that is equal parts white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, and water, with a drop or 2 of Sal Suds.

So here comes the question of the day.  Don’t you just love scrubbing your tub and/or shower?  Isn’t it just the most fun you can have with your boots on?  No?  I didn’t think so.  It can however, be much easier with your boots OFF… your boots and the rest of your clothes…

I have huge, clear, glass doors on my shower.  They’re the most awful things to keep clean.  Spots and streaks and hard water and soap scum and YUCK!

Well, I had an epiphany in the shower last week-ish.  If most of the crap in the shower is left behind from the soap and the water, then why can’t I use the soap and the water to CLEAN it too?  I mean, it’s not like I’ll be naked and slathered in chemical cleaners.  It’s soap for goodness sake.

So I hopped out of the shower and fetched a brand new scrubby pad from under the sink in the kitchen.

I squirted a little soap on the pad and gave the shower doors a quick scrub down and rinsed them before I got out. Wow!  They’re beautiful!  And that is, by FAR, the easiest it’s EVER been for me to clean them.

I squeezed out the scrubby really well and stood it up on the shower rack to dry and it stays there.  The shower and tub is the ONLY thing it is used for.  I’d hate to stand in the shower playing with something that scrubs the toilet.

So there’s my really odd post.  Maybe it’s TMI..lol.  I have just found it EVER so convenient to do once a week, it makes my bathroom look SO much nicer, it makes me feel good when I look at it.  And it’s one of the beautiful perks of using mild, organic cleaners.  If I wouldn’t use it on myself, why would I want to breath its fumes into my lungs?

Have a wonderful week, my friends.  See you Thursday!~

Out of the Mouths of Babes

November 9th, 2010

I believe that knowledge is power.  I try to arm my children with knowledge and allow them to control their own lives (supervised of course) and make their own choices so they grow up feeling in control and empowered and independent.

OscarI try not to make rules.  I try to explain the choices available and then explain MY choice.  This is what I would choose, and this is why.  Lead by example, right?  They do as you do, not as you say.

I love when you are rewarded with a moment in which you can clearly see that you are making a difference in what they think.  You are being heard even though it feels like they aren’t listening most of the time.

We’ve all heard the saying, “If I knew then what I know now…..”  That’s what this is.  An opportunity for them to live THEIR “then” with the knowledge of MY now.  But it’s not my job to make them do anything.

It’s my job to practice what I preach in every aspect of my life and show them the way.  Not dictate the way, and then enforce it.

So here’s my conversation with Michael… my 10 (11 next month) year old.  As a side note, he asked me what irony was a few months ago.  I tried to explain, but he said he didn’t quite get it.  Guess he’s past that now…

Son: Mom, why would someone call their pizza “Tombstone?”

Mom: *Contemplates a moment* I don’t know why. Kind of a dumb name, huh?

Son: I wonder if it’s meant to be ironic.

Mom: Ironic? How?

Son: Because it’s processed fake food and a tombstone is what you’ll need from eating it.

Mom: *Stares blankly* (blink blink)
