Our cat has a urinary tract infection and I had to take her to the vet this morning. It’s a sure sign when she starts to pee on the carpet by the door. _grumbles_ But hey, at least when I called the vet’s office at 9am, they were able to get me in @ 10:30! AND the grand total for the visit, physical, and meds was $65. That’s my good spin on a burning situation. LOL
So that got me thinking about the animals in my life.
Like this morning as I laid in bed, just a little bit longer than necessary… even though the kids were calling them with the promise of going outside, these dogs of mine stayed right by my bed, refusing to be coaxed out without me. I love my stupid dogs.
We live in the country and there are a lot of animals. I adore the nature around me. I have to admit that there are a specific sort around here, and it’s funny because they change. I love the idea of animal totems.
Read about totems on Wikipedia.
We have crows. Not all the time, but when they come, there’s like, 30 of them. It’s a pretty incredible sight. Even the dogs don’t want to be outside.
I have a male and female cardinal couple that live here. They hop around outside my window all the time. He hops further out than her and brings food back to her. Then he FEEDS it to her. They’re adorable.
I have a bird feeder that attracts a bunch of colorful beauties. I’ve never been an avid birdsman… if that’s even a word. In other words, I don’t care what they are enough to look them up, but I love to sit and admire them.
I have hummingbirds out the wazoo. They swoop down 6 and 7 at a time and will eat out of my hand.
We have field mice, moles, one big fat groundhog, chipmunks, 2 squirrels, bunnies bunnies bunnies, deer, raccoons, opossum, turkey, silk worms, earthworms, slugs, ants, oooodles of butterflies, carpenter bees, honey bees, wasps, and yellowjackets… big, hairy wolf spiders, longlegged spiders, FROGS, turtles, crickets, lightning bugs, geese, GNATS, turkey vultures, hawks, bald eagles, and praying mantises.
I love sharing my property with so many beautiful creatures. Sharing my HOUSE, not so much. We try to keep the indoor critters to a minimum.
Here’s an old post from the archives about an extra critter in the house. Have a laugh on me!
