A Naked & Green Kind of Clean

February 21st, 2011

Greetings my blog family~

I have an odd post today because that’s just how I roll.

First, I would like to say that I am currently immersed in Doreen Virtue’s new book, The Angel Therapy Handbook, and you can expect to get my review on Thursday!

Second, I am also hosting a Waning Moon Banishing Meditation on Thursday at 11 am and 11 pm EST. You can see the event posted on facebook and RSVP as “attending,” or simply comment or reply to this post and I will add you to the reminder list and you will get a reminder email the morning and evening of the event.

And now… the odd part.

I have managed to rid my home of virtually every chemical cleaner.  The things I use to clean most of the time is Dr. Bronners Sal Suds, which is biodegradable and septic safe, and a homemade, all purpose cleaner I make that is equal parts white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, and water, with a drop or 2 of Sal Suds.

So here comes the question of the day.  Don’t you just love scrubbing your tub and/or shower?  Isn’t it just the most fun you can have with your boots on?  No?  I didn’t think so.  It can however, be much easier with your boots OFF… your boots and the rest of your clothes…

I have huge, clear, glass doors on my shower.  They’re the most awful things to keep clean.  Spots and streaks and hard water and soap scum and YUCK!

Well, I had an epiphany in the shower last week-ish.  If most of the crap in the shower is left behind from the soap and the water, then why can’t I use the soap and the water to CLEAN it too?  I mean, it’s not like I’ll be naked and slathered in chemical cleaners.  It’s soap for goodness sake.

So I hopped out of the shower and fetched a brand new scrubby pad from under the sink in the kitchen.

I squirted a little soap on the pad and gave the shower doors a quick scrub down and rinsed them before I got out. Wow!  They’re beautiful!  And that is, by FAR, the easiest it’s EVER been for me to clean them.

I squeezed out the scrubby really well and stood it up on the shower rack to dry and it stays there.  The shower and tub is the ONLY thing it is used for.  I’d hate to stand in the shower playing with something that scrubs the toilet.

So there’s my really odd post.  Maybe it’s TMI..lol.  I have just found it EVER so convenient to do once a week, it makes my bathroom look SO much nicer, it makes me feel good when I look at it.  And it’s one of the beautiful perks of using mild, organic cleaners.  If I wouldn’t use it on myself, why would I want to breath its fumes into my lungs?

Have a wonderful week, my friends.  See you Thursday!~

Outside the Comfort Zone

August 24th, 2010

Greetings all, on this beautiful Full Moon :)

I’m experiencing a lot of change right now, and I think I’ve actually got it all under control.  A little bit of planning ahead, organization, and routine.  I’m determined to feed my family better, more often.

I made up a menu for the week that includes cooking for lunch and leftovers for dinner, plus the occasional leftover morph into something new.  It occurred to me last night that if I made such a detailed menu up for a few weeks in a row, I would have an out-right blue print of smooth menu weeks, and that would make it VERY easy to go back and repeat entire weeks.  I would have already done all the thinking involved.

I also made a menu for the boys’ lunches.  They now have groups of side dishes associated with days of the week.  I can run that on auto pilot.  I only have to change up the main attraction!

See the family menu here…  and the boys’ automated side dishes here

I’m going on a new Joy Quest this cycle too!!

I’m going to be experiencing something new very soon that I’m SUPER excited about, and yet completely terrified. LOL

Michael has been begging for a guitar and lessons for a couple years now.  Our deal was, “Once you master the recorder in fourth grade and have a basic understanding of reading music, then we’ll talk guitar.  Probably the beginning of fifth grade.”

Well, I can’t even believe it, but he starts fifth grade TOMORROW!

And he did master the recorder and reading music just as I’d asked him to.  So, Probably next week he’s going to start guitar lessons.

But as I was about to call to inquire, I had a sudden realization.  I should TOTALLY go take lessons too!  I’ve always wanted to learn an instrument beyond my short stint with the flute in fifth grade.  Piano and guitar.  Those are my top 2 favorite instruments.

And the more I sat and pondered the idea of actually taking guitar lessons, the more excited I became.  I mean, I was vibrating from the inside so tremendously, it felt like it should have been visible from outside of me.

After I called and found out that Michael and I can take the lessons TOGETHER and get a discount because we’re going for the same instrument and we’re in the same place knowledge wise, I realized how completely terrified I am.  LOL

This is WAY out of my comfort zone!!!

I have to do it though.  I’m more excited than afraid.

It’s the sort of fear that you feel as the cart tops the first BIG hill on the roller coaster track.  You’re about 99% sure you’ll be okay, and you’re terrified and yet exhilarated at the same time.  You want to laugh out loud, but still, a scream threatens.  Never are you more present in the Now than when your Now is on top of a monster roller coaster hill about to take the plunge…

It’s living!

This is something I’ve always wanted to do.  Until now though, unnoticed.  A dream unheeded.  It’s incredible to me the depth of pleasure I get from simply contemplating this step forward.

With a step this far into pleasure, and this far beyond my comfort zone, I’m excited to see the beautiful ripple effect that will ensue….

A House Full of Spirit

March 27th, 2010

I am finding that a Spiritual path is very much individual to each of us.  I know many people do similar things and many people get ideas from other people, but overall, it’s a very unique and personal relationship we each have with the Universe.

I’ve become more and more Spiritual in nature over the past couple of years, and as it’s become more a part of who I am, I’ve ached to allow it to reach out into the rest of my life.  Allow my thoughts and views on conscious creation and my personal relationship with the God and Goddess to become a part many parts of my daily, normal life.

This has been happening for me this year.  It’s been a little at a time.  Baby steps.  But slowly I’ve gotten some pretty regular practices worked into my daily life and I couldn’t be happier about it.

8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8

Over this past moon cycle through Cancer (3-23-10 * 3-24-10) I said I was going to focus on my home, decor, and my emotional connection with the Universe, and I did.

I started by putting in one of my favorite CDs, Zen and the Art of Relaxation because I wanted to bring a calm, relaxed atmosphere to my surroundings.

Then I went to the shelf I like to use as an altar, lit a candle and said a brief prayer.  Basically just a prayer to allow me to bring peace and balance to my home and gratitude for the beautiful family that created the chaos :)

After that, I set to work in the kitchen.  It wasn’t terrible, just disorganized and messy with a dishwasher in need of emptying and reloading.  I normally despise cleaning the kitchen, but I was sort of into it that day.  I had thoughts of how I relate to the Universe and how the Universe relates to me floating around in my head.  After all, that’s what I’d already decided to focus upon for a couple days.

As I was wiping down and shining up my stove top, a thought suddenly struck me.  My stove is an altar!

I gather ingredients and combine them cauldron style there.  There’s always a purpose in what I do there and I’m always focused.  AND the hearth has always been known to be very important.  It’s the center of the home.

Also, years ago my marriage nearly fell apart.  We lived through a very hard year that was reconciled on the day it was going to end for good.  The following day, I was in a store and found myself looking at a plaque that said, “Life is Good” and I knew it was for me.  I brought it home and hung it over my stove because I wanted to be reminded, every day, of all the wonderful things in my life, and to never take them for granted.  My entire life and outlook changed that day.

So that was it.  I was suddenly looking at my entire stove in a completely different way.  I decided at that moment that, no matter what, my stove will remain clean and clear.  If the entire kitchen is coming apart at the seams, my stove top will be clean and shiny and beautiful.

I will approach my stove with reverence.  Not stoically but purposefully and gratefully and consciously.

I put a candle on the back of the stove and later when I went to cook dinner, I grabbed that candle and lit it with a prayer of gratitude and blessings for our food and health and family, and that was how I began my nightly ritual of cooking dinner.  It was refreshing and wonderful and I anticipate regularly repeating this new ritual.

BUT IT DIDN’T STOP THERE!!

I went on into the living room to clean up and I was going across my shelves with a feather duster and realized that I DO actually have a favorite shelf.  It’s a small area that holds things that I love.  Pictures of people I love.  Small things that make me feel good.  I threw a candle on it and called it an altar.  Really, this couldn’t be simpler!

If you walk into the home of a Catholic, you know it!  Their faith is displayed everywhere.

This is the same thing.  Having sacred areas, in what will end up being every room of my home, creates a place where, when my eyes fall there, I am immediately reminded that I am loved and blessed and one with all.

It gives me a sense of peace.  I feel like each room in my home is now a metaphor for life.  No matter how chaotic or askew it all becomes, there’s a sacred space in the center that is always pristine and perfect and happy and available to connect me to the One Life from where I am manifest.  A sacred space from where I may create, pray, and appreciate.  A vortex of peace.

I would LOVE to take some pictures to show you all, but alas, my camera battery is ca-put and I’m having an interesting time finding a replacement.  I will do so when I get my battery and make an update.

~ Today, Saturday (3-27-10) @ 3:04am EST, the Moon v/c until 6:57am this morning ~

I LOVE the spring!  I can’t believe the sun is rising so early now!  And I keep waking up to the sounds of bird songs!!

~ When She rights her course @ 6:57am EST, She’ll move into Virgo where She’ll remain, from Saturday morning until 2:55am EST on Monday (3-29-10) ~

My almanac says: “Virgo favors the accomplishment of details and commands from higher up.  Focus on health, hygiene, and daily schedules.”

Virgo is an Earth sign and places emphasis on things that you might describe as grounding.  Things that are practical, functional, nurturing, stabilizing, etc..

It’s time for practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. The energy is fantastic for re-organizing and rethinking plans. Great satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others.

Health and well being are in focus. Virgo is the house of service, work and health and has a great focus on hygiene, physical fitness, cleanliness and attention to detail.

Some positive key words associated with Virgo are: meticulous, tidy, modest, reliable, diligent, practical, analytical, intelligent, hygienic, detail oriented, precise, wholesome, healthy and perfectionism, conservative.

Some negative key words associated with Virgo are: fussy, overly critical, harsh, excessively fastidious, finicky, a perfectionist, worry wart.

* Queen of Staffs *
This is just the energy I need to get through this weekend!  That happy, positive, upbeat, vibrant vitality.  A positive attitude and a great outlook will take me far this weekend through what needs doing.

~ My Plan: Saturday morning through Monday morning ~

Well, given that we’re taking a trip to Colorado April 1st (Yay!) I think this weekend in Virgo is a perfect time to wrap up all that meticulous trip planning.  I still have some details to attend to and I can’t imagine a more perfect time.  Come to think of it, I should probably deal with some household details too.  Don’t want to wait until the last minute.

My intention is to leave my home in a pristine state.  The only life moving around in here for a week will be the cats.  I don’t want to come home to any forgotten treasures in the trash that have stunk up the house, or anything else that might terrify me.  I also figure, I’ll likely need a vacation FROM my vacation, so I won’t want anything on the to-do list when I get back.

Have a great weekend!  I intend to :)
