Tips, Tricks & Swine Flu Blunders

September 1st, 2009

Happy September Everyone!

This is going to be a brief post. I just wanted to share a couple things with you all this morning before I go off to enjoy this beautiful sunshine.

Firstly ~
I found this REALLY awesome website. It’s at ChoreWars.com. This evening when the boys get home from school, I intend to help them create their own characters and we’re going to play this game!

What you do is….

You create your own character in this “role playing” type game and every time you complete a real life chore, you log in and add it to your character and your avatar then gains power. Your family sets up their own characters and you play against each other gaining points and power by DOING CHORES!!!

I thought, WOW…what an awesome idea! So, I’m in!

Secondly ~
This one’s only for the girls! I found some very interesting ideas for relieving PMS and cramps. I’m going to give them ALL a try this month and I will let you know if they work. They sound promising. Check back the week of September 13th and I should have something to say about them by then.

Just for the record, they are… 1) Sleeping only 4 hours the night before you expect PMS. Apparently it corrects out of whack body rhythms and works for 80% of women. – 2) A topical pain reliever of lotion, almond oil, and 1 drop each of lavender, sage and rose oil. Supposedly will cut cramps in half! – 3) Taking 4g of flaxseed oil everyday is said to ease cramps and PMS symptoms by stopping the triggering of sharp uterine contractions.

If anyone has heard of or tried these before, I’d love to hear from you :)

Finally ~
I have been hearing a LOT about swine flu recently. I got this article from Dr. Mercola this morning and I wanted to repost it. I’m against vaccinations in the first place. I wish I’d have known more about them sooner, but alas, only one of my children has not been immunized. Anyway, here’s the article link. I hope you’ll check it out. It’s worth the read.

I’ll be back later on with a post about my chakra of the day.

Have a lovely day!

Vitamin D3, A Miracle Cure?

August 8th, 2009

Hello Everyone ~

This week has been my Hubby’s vacation. He’s been home since Monday, August 3rd. We visited our local amusement/water park Waldameer, on Tuesday and had a wonderful day.

Yesterday we took an hour long bike ride down The Western Reserve Greenway Trail. That’s a long ride for 7 and 9 year old little legs. They did really great!

Other than that, we’ve been focusing on the remodel project we have going. We’re building a “Master Suite”, complete with bathroom and private access sun room. We’re also putting in a new laundry room and hallway and we’re extending our dining room out by 6 feet and adding a sliding glass patio door.

This is why I’ve not been posting!! However, normal life resumes on Monday morning. Normal site updates will happen tomorrow as scheduled and I hope to resume posting 3-4 times per week.

In the meantime, here’s a post from my old blog. I really learned a lot from this video.

Enjoy and see you much more very soon!

I was watching this video from Dr. Mercola and I took his advice and noticed a REAL difference in my skin.

I’ve always had adult acne breakouts periodically and this advice seems to have stopped the cycle!

In this video he talks about HOW your skin absorbs vitamin D3 from the sun and how sunlight filtered through window glass actually prevents you from absorbing vitamin D.

He recommends you shower less because your skin needs 24 to 48 hours to absorb the D after sun exposure.

I started only washing my whole body every other day. My skin hasn’t erupted in acne since I stopped washing it so much!

Impulsive Summer Fun!

July 14th, 2009

Summer is in it’s peak! Summer vacation is halfway over. The temperatures are rising and if you’re home with your kids like I am, you’re probably looking for things to do to keep them busy. Busy children are happier children and busy children have MUCH happier mothers!!

I love that my boys are older now. They require a lot less immediate supervision. I like to carry a book. Then if I stop at the park on impulse, I have something to relax and amuse me while they burn off their excess energy.

But speaking of doing things on impulse… we do that a lot around here. The boys will be restless and bored and I will just suddenly say, “Okay, let’s go!” and we hop in the van and go wherever we end up. After we ended up somewhere wishing we’d planned better a few times, I created my “Impulse Kit”. Now I get it together when the kids get out of school and I keep it in my van. We rarely need anything that’s not in this VERY simple kit.

Here it is!

One towel. I have 2 boys with me usually. Two towels is too much of a sacrifice for my bathroom.

Towel

Never know when there might be swimming!

One blanket. I carry a sheet.

Cover up with it, sit on it, cover dry seats!

One folding chair.

ALWAYS comes in handy!

ALWAYS comes in handy!

One sun umbrella.

So inexpensive & SO much healthier than sunblock!

Seriously, I think mine was $10 and I had to buy the extra plastic ground screw for like, $8 but it was worth it. It screws into dirt or gravel or sand. This umbrella is shade for ANYWHERE!

Easy to carry and assemble.

The plastic screw fits right on the bottom.

One melt proof snack for everybody.
Granola Bars

Three plastic grocery bags.
Plastic Bags (256 x 192)

One first aid kit. Mine is only 4 bandages, a small squirt bottle of peroxide and a washcloth.
First Aid (256 x 192)

One box of baby wipes.
Wipes (256 x 192)

Two writing/drawing tablets.
Notebooks (256 x 192)

With this “Impulse Kit” in my van, I feel free to stop anywhere because whatever we encounter, we have what we need. We like to stop at the creek, beach, park and for ice cream through the summer during the day. Carrying these things in my van sure beats the heck out of stopping to plan and pack before we go.

I’m just a fly by the seat of my pants kinda girl. I still plan, I just plan on my impulsiveness and plan in advance :D

A quick note: I used to carry bottles of water in my van because you never know when someone will REALLY need a drink. I don’t do that or suggest it anymore. When plastic bottle get warm, they release toxic chemicals into the water inside. Then you drink the chemical laced water. Not good! These chemicals have been linked to serious hormone imbalances just to name ONE!
