Uncertain as the Weather

April 24th, 2010

Before I jump right into this post, I’ve got something free to give ya!  I’ve been wanting, for some time now, to focus upon a different chakra every day.  Finding balance in your chakras is very easy and only really requires you to focus upon them and allow them to turn, color, and balance.  Having a chakra of the day in my sidebar has helped me very much.  It can be hard to find time to do things like this.  I’m very happy that I’ve finally found some!

(weather)* Uncertain as the Weather *

I was checking the weather forecast this morning because Mike commented on the dark skies and expressed thoughts of impending rain, and I was suddenly struck by how life is like the weather.

There is wet depressing weather and violent storms.  There are little storms that are gone just about as soon as they arrive.  There is sun to warm your face and make you feel good and sun so bright that it will burn you if you’re not conscious of it.  There’s wind that blows things away and there’s wind that can change without a moments notice.

Sometimes you walk outside expecting the sun and find yourself in a torrential downpour.  You can’t always predict what the weather will be.  Usually you can see it coming, but sometimes it really surprises you.  Even people who are older, wiser, and more experienced can sometimes completely miss the boat on forecasting because there are subtle influences at work that may be individual to one specific area alone.  Here we have lake Erie.  No snow for the viewing area means 3′ of lake effect snow at my house!

It also made me think about how I see life.  About how my path and experience has shaped my view of the weather.

I don’t want to focus on the storms and the rain while the sun is out.  I’d much rather be basking in the warmth and watching in awe at nature’s growth.  I do however enjoy the rain and storms very much for without them, it could not all be so beautiful.  I guess if I were to summarize my thoughts on life, I would have to say, the storms always end eventually and overall there’s much more sun than rain.

I just realized how well this fits for a Saturday with the moon in Virgo with the Hanged Man tarot card I chose this morning!  When it comes to the weather, it will be what it will be.  Don’t be angry at the rain, just take an umbrella.

Have a lovely Saturday… rain or shine :)

Joy Quest ~ Site Updates!

April 21st, 2010

Today the second quarter of the Moon cycle begins.  That leaves me two more weeks to focus upon my intention of this month… My Joy Quest.

I’ve made a to-do list of things that I want to have accomplished by the end of May.  Some of them have to do with my online life but mostly they’re items to do with my flower and veggie beds and gardens.

After I posted about my Friday Joy Quest last week, I sat down and gave some thought to what exactly I could do to seek more joy.  I don’t really have any hobbies and I feel like that’s what I need.  I’ve decided that I will seek my joy in gardening.

I’ve had a garden for two years now.  It’s been almost a complete flop each time.  Lack of focus.  Not this year!

It’s funny really.  I have this cycle that I repeat constantly.  I think about the things I’d LIKE to do out in the gardens, and I put them off.  Then I think of how relaxing it would be, and I put them off.  Then I think about how lovely the finished product would be, and I put them off.  Then… after what seems like an eternity of procrastination, and sometimes it takes a week or more, I go out and put my hands in the dirt.

I always find myself digging and weeding and thinking, “Why on Earth do I put this off so long?!  I really am enjoying myself.”

No more!

Now, I am a gardener.  I may have to GROW my own green thumb, but a gardening I will go.  I will seek my joy in the dirt.  I know I’ve found it there before.

I will find time.  I will make time.  There will be nothing more important to me than nurturing and caring for the flowers that bring peace and wild nature to my backdoor and the fresh vegetables that nurture my family.

I’ve already started planting perennials in my Gratitude Garden.  I’ll have the last couple new things in today, so I’ll be sure to get some pics together.  I meant to have them in yesterday, but I sat down to do a little writing yesterday morning and ended up making so much progress, I didn’t want to stop.  That was were I found my joy Tuesday.  I’m just going where the joy leads me baby!

I made some changes to my blog that I’m really happy with and I hope you’ll check them out.  I’ve added a “Today is:” widget to the sidebar that I personally (not a program) update every morning.  I wanted a way to incorporate my following of the Moon Astrology into my blog without having to fill inboxes by devoting entire posts to it.

In the sidebar you will find today’s date, and the astrological house the Moon is found in.  You will also find a tarot card of the day (I picked this mornings fresh from bed, in my robe, steaming coffee in front of me in my completely serene house.  My happiest moment of each day seems an appropriate time to pick a card.) with a brief paragraph of my reading for it.  I added to that a short interpretation that includes consideration of the Moon’s placement.

Below that is now a “Chakra of the Day” with some information and a “fast, easy, do anywhere” meditation of my own for balance. There’s a common misconception that meditating has to be time consuming, but it doesn’t.

So that’s where I am on my Joy Quest.  I also want to mention that I’ve decided that regular exercise is also part of my joy and I’ve been SUCH a slacker through this winter season.  There will be no more of that either.  I’ve decided to start running again, which apparently I’ve missed. LOL

I’m starting slow, which I never do and always burn out fast.  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Not every day.  Monday I watched my DVR’d Desperate Housewives, sans commercials, which cuts the time down to 43 minutes and I jogged along at an easy 3.5 mph BUT when I run outside, I run intervals between phone poles.  Monday while watching Housewives and this morning while watching ♥ House ♥ I ran 3.5 mph for 2.36 miles…. constant.  I plugged along, lost in my shows.

My shirt was soaked after each run and there’s just a lot of pride in that for me.  I’m proud of me :)  I’m looking forward to feeling more of that.

So anyway, I’m going to wrap this up and see what I can do about finding some joy in a second cup of coffee.  I LOVE my mid-morning, everyone’s gone, house is peaceful again, french press, boiling hot cup of coffee.

I hope you’re finding some joy in your life.  If you’re not, what’s stopping you?

You Say Potato, I Say Organic

February 19th, 2010

Good Friday morning to all of you beautiful bloggies!
I feel so great about the next few days. As many of you know, Ash and I have decided to do a group abundance ritual/meditation tonight. You can find the details for it here.

At 5:55 EST this morning, the moon entered into the house of Taurus.

My almanac says:In Taurus, thing begun DO last, tend to increase in their value, and become hard to alter. Brings out an appreciation for beauty and sensory experience.

She’ll be in Taurus until She v/c @ 7:15 am on Sunday 02-21 until 1:47pm when She settles into Gemini.

I intend to attend my group ritual tonight and charge my money clip talisman and spend time meditating on the abundance all around. Thursday I ventured into the snowy wood to leave gifts of coins and beautiful stones for my Earthy Elementals. Saturday I will do it again. Taurus brings out an appreciation for beauty and there’s nothing I find more beautiful than the sanctity of nature.

I foresee a lazy Sunday morning. With the moon v/c, I like to take my cue to just chill! And what better time to chill with my family than on a lazy Sunday morning.

The moon will be headed straight into airy Gemini Sunday afternoon @ 1:47pm, but I’ll see you again before then. *wink*

You Say Potato, I Say Organic

I am sold.  I am all about the organic potato.  This wasn’t always the case however.

Why I didn’t want to try them.

I can buy a 10 pound bag of Idaho potatoes for $3 or I can buy a 3 pound bag of organic potatoes for $2.50.  Unfortunately math was my strong subject.

Why I decided to try them.

I stumbled upon a top 10 list of produce that retains the highest percentages of chemicals and are best bought organic. Potatoes were #1.  Coffee was #2, but with the amount of coffee I drink, I’d go broke!  One change at a time please.

Why I’m sold.

I bought the 3# of organic potatoes for $2.50.  *cringes* I took them home and the first thing I made with them was french fries.  I scrubbed them with my produce brush (LG fingernail brush), put them through the french fry cutter and dropped them into a bag with some olive oil and sea salt.  I shook them around to coat them and threw them into a 400 degree oven on parchment paper for about 15 minutes.

1* Normally I do up a bunch of potatoes and bake them.  We eat.  What’s left is left.  Usually the dogs get what’s left.  ~  How much money was I wasting by OVER cooking so often.  As I cut up the expensive organics, I was much more conscious to the amount that I would need and I even put out more vegetables to compensate for the smaller amount of potatoes.  Everyone ate everything.

2* These were, by far, the best tasting potatoes I’ve ever eaten.  I didn’t even realize that potatoes really HAD a flavor.  I always thought of them as bland and absorbing whatever flavor they’re added to, but that’s not true.  Potatoes are phenomenally delicious!

So that’s my testimonial for spending the extra money and buying the organic potatoes.  Give them a try, you won’t be sorry!
