Beltane Beautification!

Blessed Belated Beltane!

I know I’m late.  I thought about posting yesterday morning but the day just got away from me.  You know what they say; Time flies when you’re having fun.  And fun was definitely what I was having!

(Beltane)I wish I could take a picture of my back yard to share with you.  I had a feeling, as I dropped my camera off with Alan (15) on Thursday last week for his field trip to Washington D.C., that I would never want to take pics more than while I had no camera with which to do so.  Boy was I right.

The apple trees are at their peak bloom this weekend.  Every time the wind blows, a whirlwind of white and pink petals float by.
The phlox in my Butterfly Garden are growing and spreading and just about to ooze right out of their planter!

Mike mowed our 3 acres of yard while I planted a second lilac bush, the first of which went in the ground on Earth Day.  That lilac bush was as close as I got to putting a Maypole in the ground, but I DID dance around it a few times as I buried, fed, and stacked stones around the base :)

When that was finished, I grabbed up the weed-whacker and cleared all the weeds out from around the house before constructing a raised bed for planting.  I’ve been wanting to put a raised bed in this spot for years.  Last summer, Mike even bought me the supplies to do it, I just never got around to it.  This spring, one of the things on my list for my Joy Quest is gardening. Thanks to my purposeful focus on that area, my long awaited, raised planting bed is complete.

I had intended to fill it with beautiful flowers and climbing vines (I added a lattice trellis) but I’ve ended up with the climbing vines planed as seeds along the base of both sides of the trellis and herbs and veggies.  The bed looked so fertile and gorgeous that I couldn’t leave it empty until today and all I had to be planted are herbs I started in the house, so that’s what went in.

I planted 2 orange pepper plants, 2 green pepper plants, 4 green beans, sage, oregano, and basil on the large side of the bed.  Then, on the other side of the trellis in the smaller space, I sprinkled seeds of echinacea and chamomile.  I plan to let that side just sort of bloom and grow wildly.  I think the 2 herbs will complement the varieties of moonflower, morning glory, and sweet pea that I planted under the lattice.

Today I’m building planter boxes out of the salvaged wood we managed to save when we demo’d the part of the house that is quickly becoming my Master Suite.  And speaking of, we should be actually SLEEPING in our new room next weekend!  Yay!

I have some herbs to plant that I’ll need to keep in containers so they don’t spread and take over whatever bed they occupy, like mint and catnip.  It’s been not quite raining, but more than sprinkling, since I got up @ 7am, so I’m glad we got the outside stuff done yesterday.  I can construct planters inside, and if I finish and want to plant them, I can do it in the greenhouse.

I hope your spring has gotten off to a bang-up start!  I usually put things off until it’s too late.  This year, I’ve gotten a really early start.  I still can’t believe this is only the second of May and I’ve gotten SO much done already!  I’m looking forward to watching everything grow now.

You know me… I ♥ growth :)
