H1N1, Government Blunders & Big Fat Liars

November 30th, 2009

I heard on the radio a few weeks ago that local medical facilities are no longer testing specifically for the H1N1 virus.

Now, I’m not one to care. I didn’t get vaccinated and neither did my children or anyone in my extended family. I’ve been of the belief that this whole H1N1 things is just a big fat lie, frankly. That’s not to say that I don’t think the virus is real, but it sure isn’t the great, big, scary deal that the government and media would have us believe it is.

So, a few weeks ago, when I heard that the CDC (Center for Disease Control), who’s in charge of everything, had formally told doctors to cease checking for H1N1 specifically and just assume it’s all H1N1… I was a little… miffed… at yet amused.

I was in my van with my oldest son, making the trip to take him home after his weekend at our house when we heard it on the radio. I laughed the sarcastic chuckle of someone in disbelief at the pure stupidity of the people who are supposed to be running this country. My son, who is old enough to understand at 15 and studies these things in social studies, inquired as to why I found this announcement so amusing.

I replied by explaining it this way:

Say 100 people in our state get REALLY sick. Eighty of them have a really bad cold that is likely to turn into an upper respiratory infection. Fifteen of them have the plain old seasonal flu that rampages the country for a few months a year. Five of them have H1N1.

Of the eighty who get upper respiratory infections, sixty of them die from breathing complications due to the fact that they were over 70 yrs old or under 4 yrs old. Of the fifteen with the regular flu, ten die. Of the five with H1N1, none die and they make a full recovery after 5-7 days.

They’re STILL going to get on the news, in hysterics, screaming that 70 more people have died from the H1N1 virus!!! When in fact, no one actually died from H1N1 and there’s really nothing to be so afraid of.

He completely understood where I was coming from and agreed with everything I’d said when I finished. I love when that happens :)

So anyway, I’ve been ignoring all the H1N1 hype. The health department came to our schools and vaccinated all the children with permission slips. Mine were not in that group of course. I’ve been keeping up with their daily multi vitamins, extra C, and extra D3. A power house of immune health if ever there was one.

Today, I found a link to these videos on Facebook. One of my fantastic friends had it posted on her wall, so I wanted to take a minute to write a little about what I thought and then post the videos for you all to watch. I don’t know how many of you subscribe to or are even familiar with Dr. Mercola, but he’s a wonderfully intelligent doctor with a natural health website and newsletter. I really can’t recommend him highly enough!

Here’s a link to his site: http://www.mercola.com/

Here is video 1 of 4. You will be able to get to the other 3 videos through the below screen.
In these videos, Mr. Mercola is interviewing a journalist who went to every state inquiring about H1N1 and found out just how little H1N1 is actually out there, proving yet again that it’s all a great, big scare tactic.

Medium

November 30th, 2009

I have been watching the television show “Medium” for many years now. As long as it’s been on the air as a matter of fact. I even recall the very first show!

For those of you like my friend Ash, who is televisionally challenged, Medium is a show about our favorite psychic/medium, Allison Dubois, and her amazing dream life that leads, on a constant basis, to the capture and arrest of all the bad people residing in Arizona and sometimes further. Her character is actually based on a real woman, which I think is the coolest part of the whole damn thing!

So anyway… I’m sitting on my bed last night watching a rerun on the Fa La La La Lifetime Network (LOL) and Allison is going through her usual turmoil as she tries to decipher a dream that doesn’t make much sense while trying to convince her husband, Joe, her boss, the District Attourney, and her friend/peer/colleague Detective Scanlin that everyone is in grave danger.

Then her husband goes on and on about how sometimes a dream is just a dream and maybe she doesn’t know everything after all etc etc. Her boss goes on and on about how a dream isn’t evidence and how he doesn’t see how he can do anything based on what she’s told him. He finds it unbelievable and tells her that when she has something concrete, she should come back and talk to him. Detective Scanlin usually just balks in disbelief and cracks jokes and makes smart assed remarks at her expense.

This is the make believe life of Mrs. Allison Dubois.

Here’s the thoughts I had while watching….

How totally irritating would it be if you had dreams all the time that ALWAYS came true, even if you couldn’t understand them at the time. And when you had said dreams and then tried to warn the appropriate people of the impending doom, they always blew you off and didn’t believe you until the last second when it all comes together and you become a hero again?

I don’t think I could stay married to a man who doubted every word I said when I’ve been proven to be right 95+% of the time. How infuriating would it be to be doing the job you were actually hired for, and then have to argue with your boss on a regular basis about your current and past accuracies?

I know, I know… it’s only television. It’s not real.

How do they get away with it though? How do they put such ridiculous scenarios on TV on a constant basis and get so many millions of people to constantly swallow it. As much as I’ve always loved Medium, I think I may actually be finishing up my obsession with it now. The only things on the show that ever change is the bad guys and the victims. Everything else from the conversations to the detective work to the constant disbelief is exactly the same.

Maybe I’ll get lucky and a producer for the show will happen upon my blog, and decide that I’m 100% right and change the layout of the show forever. I can see my name in the credits already!!

HA! A girl can dream, right :)

I hope you’re having a wonderful Monday so far. I sure am. I’m getting my daily exercise as I type this! I built myself a little wooden jiggy that fits on the front of my treadmill and actually holds my laptop so I can walk at 3mph and type a post to all you fantastic people at the same time.
